Thieves using car remote control jammers are not only targeting shopping malls, but have turned their attention to schools, Sandton police have said.
The crime trend surfaced in a wide range of areas in Johannesburg and Pretoria over the past few months.
The latest victim has told Eyewitness News that the thieves, who cleaned out his car while it was parked at a Bryanston supermarket last week, were smartly dressed and drove a black Jeep Cherokee.
Sandton police's Kim Cloete warned people to be vigilant.
“The jamming device is being utilised at shopping centres and as well as schools,” she said.
Cloete added that they still have several operations running to try and stop the spate of thefts and added that two suspects were arrested at the weekend.
